چکیده

Models that are used for the simulation of two-phase flows in coastal dynamics make extensive use of empirical data. The main focus of this investigation is to develop models for specific aspects of two-phase flows that are based on physical principles in order to reduce the use of such data. In this study several existing empirically based drag force models are discussed. The motion of spherical or near-spherical solid particles through a Newtonian fluid is investigated and a new method for closure of the drag force, using a Representative Unit Cell is discussed and compared to the existing models as well as to experimental data. The various drag models were also evaluated by numerical simulations, using an in-house developed program based on an adaptation of the SIMPLE procedure. 2010 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Numerical simulation of the fluid dynamics in a 3D spherical model of partially liquefied vitreous due to eye movements under planar interface conditions

Partially liquefied vitreous humor is a common physical and biochemical degenerative change in vitreous body which the liquid component gets separated from collagen fiber network and leads to form a region of liquefaction. The main objective of this research is to investigate how the oscillatory motions influence flow dynamics of partial vitreous liquefaction (PVL). So far computational fluid d...

Effects of non-newtonian properties of blood flow on magnetic nanoparticle targeted drug delivery

Objective(s): One applications of nanotechnology is in the area of medicine which is called nanomedicine. Primary instruments in nanomedicine can help us to detect diseases and used for drug delivery to inaccessible areas of human tissues. An important issue in simulating the motion of nanoparticles is modeling blood flow as a Newtonian or non-Newtonian fluid. Sometimes blood flow is simulated ...

Numerical Modeling of Two-Layered Micropolar Fluid Through an Normal and Stenosed Artery

In the present work a two fluid model for blood flow through abnormally constrictedhuman artery (stenosed artery) has been developed. The model consists of a core region of suspensionof all erythrocytes assumed to be micro-polar fluid so as to include the micro-structural effects inaddition to the peripheral-layer viscosity effects, and a peripheral plasma layer free from cells of anykind of Ne...

Entropy generation analysis of non-newtonian fluid in rotational flow

The entropy generation analysis of non-Newtonian fluid in rotational flow between two concentric cylinders is examined when the outer cylinder is fixed and the inner cylinder is revolved with a constant angular speed. The viscosity of non-Newtonian fluid is considered at the same time interdependent on temperature and shear rate. The Nahme law and Carreau equation are used to modeling dependenc...

Steady and Transient Motion of Spherical Particles in Viscoelastic Liquids

1. Introduction The motion of a spherical particle through a fluid with non-Newtonian rheological properties is a well-studied problem with a broad range of practical application from sedimentation of muds and slurries to processing of filled polymer melts. As a benchmark problem for computational rheology and the evaluation of numerical codes (cf. Hassager, 1988), the sedimentation of a sphere...
